NO - Not usually. Jetta Express
suggest that you send more than 5/7 days before you depart, so

off the aeroplane like yourself. Baggage is available usually
4 to 6 hours after arrival of the aircraft at the cargo section
of the airline we have used.
Sometimes you change airline
on route to your destination but Jetta Express normally uses
one airline all the way to the destination where possible.

HOW DO I PACK
MY THINGS.
Your baggage is going across the
world, not across the street so pack accordingly. Use suitcases
or good quality strong boxes or bags. Remember these are your
valuable personal effects that in most cases cannot be replaced
no matter how much Insurance. Use good quality boxes. Jetta Express
have their own award winning boxes available from their offices
in Australia and selected places throughout Australia. USE
COMMON SENSE DO NOT OVERLOAD BOXES OR BAGS . You
pay by weight and not by the number of boxes you send.
Use good quality packing tape and
packing material. Pack delicate things in the centre and surround
with clothes or newspapers. Jetta Express have fragile tape. Ask
our driver for fragile tape.
Computers and Hi- Fi equipment
- use the original boxes. If you do not have the right boxes then
go to the computer or Hi-fi shop.
Bikes. Go to a bike shop
and get the right size box and the inner parts of the box.
Bike box
too small - bike wheels stick out of box - bike box to big -
wheels move around. To pack your bike properly you need to
take off the
front wheel and turn the handle bars sideways. The front wheel
should be packed in new bubble wrap and packed inside the
bike
forks. Ensure all dirt and mud is removed from the bike as there
maybe a quarantine inspection in the country you are travelling
to. If possible get the bike shop to pack your bike .
For boxes and packing materials go to www.movingoverseas.com.au
The last word on packing is do not
use the red and white stripy bags - they cost $1.00/$2.00 each
and are trouble as they split open and rip easily.
CAN I USE
OTHER COMPANIES CARTONS AND BOXES.
YES - We accept other companies cartons
and boxes. Make sure you use good quality cartons and boxes.
If second-hand cartons ensure old names are blanked off.
Supermarket boxes are usually
light weight boxes for groceries so be selective if you use these.
Do not use polystyrene boxes or fruit boxes.
WHAT SHOULD
I NOT PACK.
You will be surprised that some common
items are not allowed on aircraft - remember you might be on the
same aircraft.
Dangerous goods are totally unacceptable
please see - www.jetta.com.au/dangoods
You will be signing a statutory declaration
on the Jetta Express Shippers letter of Instruction which places
the onus on you the shipper, for dangerous goods.
HOW
DO I LABEL MY BAGGAGE.
Ensure that all items are clearly
labeled both inside and outside in English. Every item must have
name and address including country of destination. You may use
the local language on additional labels. Name and address labels
are available from your travel agent or airlines. Usually labels
are with your airline ticket - if not ask either your travel agent
or Airline for baggage labels.
HOW MUCH WEIGHT
SHOULD I PACK PER ITEM.
We suggest if you cannot lift your
baggage then how can our driver lift your baggage and most important
of all when you arrive at your destination how do you pickup from
the airport of destination. For Health and Safety reasons we suggest
that no more than 30 kilograms (60 pounds) be packed per item
.
Use common sense when you pack you
only pay for weight and not the number of pieces.
DO
I SEAL MY BAGS BOXES OR CARTONS.
YES - We do not need to know
or see what is inside. All baggage is subject to x-ray examination
and search if necessary. Jetta Express or the International Airline
will not open your baggage unless you are present. However,
customs in any airport have the right to inspect without you present.
Jetta Express security seal all baggage in their offices prior
to despatch overseas.
SHOULD I NUMBER
THE ITEMS OF BAGGAGE.
YES - for more than one piece
you should number each piece in case customs want to inspect at
destination. Also see packing list - www.jetta.com.au/packing
list
back to
top
SHOULD
I DO A PACKING LIST.
You should complete a packing list
of what you have packed and also for customs at the destination
might require a packing list. See .. www.jetta.com.au/packing
list.
Jetta Express do not require the packing list unless there is
extra Insurance required.
DO JETTA EXPRESS
CHARGE BY VOLUME OR BY WEIGHT .
Experience has found that nearly
all baggage is by weight only. International airlines have a volume
requirement of 167 kilograms per cubic metre or whatever is the
greater. This is very confusing but rest assured unless you have
a surf ski, surf board, boxes of feathers or egg cartons do not
worry about volume charges. Should you require any further information
please contact Jetta Express - baggage@jetta.com.au
- or our local office.

IS IT CHEAPER
BY AIR THAN BY SEA
Experience has found when sending
from Australia that up to 100 kilograms is cheaper by air
than
sea. Sea cargo is cheaper - port to port- but the handling
charges,
port charges and local charges at destination are usually very
expensive. Usually you are not able to clear customs yourself
and need a customs agent. When you weigh up all the extra charges
by sea cargo, air is usually cheaper.

WHAT IS THE
LARGEST CONSIGNMENT
We have had many over the years but
the one that stands out is for the diplomat who returned home
from Australia after 3 years in Australia with over 1,350 Kilograms
of baggage by air including his 3 sets of golf clubs and birdcage
(no bird inside).

WHAT WAS THE
MOST UNUSUAL CONSIGNMENTS OF BAGGAGE
Every day brings something different
but most unusual would be -
- The Olympic kyak for Christchurch,
New Zealand. We were told it was 3.1 metres long and arrived
at our office after the customer left for New Zealand. Actually
was 3.8 metres long - too long for the Boeing 767 aircraft
that serviced Christchurch. We had to wait for 6 weeks before
for an additional special flight to Christchurch.
- The German couple with two
B.M.W. Endro Special Motor Bikes who were on a 2 year around
the world trip and had been ridden from Germany via Europe, Africa
, Middle East Asia, Perth, Darwin to Melbourne and then off
to United States via New Zealand.

MOST UNUSUAL PLACE
We cover all over the world but the
most unusual place and the only one consignment ever was to ...Reykjavik
in Iceland.
